Role of a waagir Land and Sea Ranger

As a waagir Land and Sea Ranger, you will be at the forefront of environmental conservation and cultural preservation. Your responsibilities will include conducting regular patrols to monitor and address environmental threats, implementing land management strategies like weed control and habitat restoration, and conducting cultural heritage surveys to protect significant sites. You will also engage with the community to promote traditional land management practices and collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance conservation efforts. This role requires a deep commitment to the land and a passion for preserving our natural and cultural heritage.

In addition to these duties, you will be responsible for reporting on the condition of our land and sea territories, contributing to the development of management plans, and working closely with other rangers and environmental agencies. Your work will be instrumental in ensuring the sustainability of our environment and the continuation of our cultural traditions.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

Key Requirements for the Land and Sea Ranger Role

  • A demonstrated passion for environmental conservation and a strong connection to the local land and culture
  • Relevant qualifications or experience in conservation, land management, environmental science or a similar field
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to accurately observe, record and report on environmental conditions
  • A current driver’s licence and willingness to obtain a 4WD licence
  • First aid certification or a willingness to obtain one
