Senior Culture and Heritage Officer 


The Opportunity

The Senior Culture & Heritage Officer is responsible for managing the identification, protection, conservation and efficient management of sites that are of significance to the Aboriginal community within the Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council boundaries.

About Darkinjung

Darkinjung is located on the Central Coast of NSW. Our boundaries stretch from Catherine Hill Bay to the North, Hawkesbury River to the South, Pacific Ocean to the East & Watagan Mountains to the West.

Your responsibilities will also include:

Investigate and prepare surveys, reports & letters in regards to Aboriginal culture & heritage
Manage the identification, registration & amendment of site records
Work closely with stakeholders, such as NPWS & OEH
Develop & implement programs relating to culture & heritage

To be successful in this role, you will (selection criteria):

Identify as an Aboriginal person
Have formal qualifications in a relevant field
Have a detailed knowledge of Aboriginal culture & heritage
Demonstrated experience in identifying, protecting & conserving Aboriginal heritage sites
Demonstrated ability to deliver Cultural Awareness Programs
Demonstrated knowledge on the following legislations;
NSW Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974
Native Title Act 1993
Demonstrated computer literacy in Asset Governor, Google Earth Mapping, MS Office
Proven written & verbal communication skills & report writing
Proven ability to meet timelines & work within budgets
Other work related requirements:

You must have excellent organisation & management skills
A current manual drivers licence, & be able to drive a 4WD vehicle
A current first aid certificate
A current WWCC number
A NSW Police Check will be required for the successful applicant
Our modern office is located at Watanobbi & is close to public transport.


This is a full-time position working 38 hours per week.
